︎ VESNA VRDOLJAK: ANONYMOUS
Vesna Vrdoljak is a collage artist living and working in Amsterdam. She is originally trained in European film and Aesthetics at Masters level, first working in Film production and distribution later in marketing for art schools, until she began working in collage in 2012. Self-taught, her process began organically by combining appealing images from magazines and old photographs.
A strong narrative runs throughout her work, with each piece imbued with a story that can be open to interpretation. Vesna fuses analogue images from magazines and journals with old photographs and bits of colored paper, to create her narrative arrangements which are all glued together by hand.
"I make collages to create my own reality. I cut and glue by hand. The limited possibilities of the analogue working method appeal to me. The tactility of mainly old photos and paper is a major value in my work.
With the least possible cuts I want to make a new and neat image. I like to create surreal and undefinable images to offer the viewer their own interpretation. I prefer to display an atmosphere or mood instead of a definite story; mostly tinted with a nostalgic feeling due to the old material I prefer to use.
My collages are about beauty and escapism. The pure aesthetics of composition and color combinations can be very satisfying to me." - VESNA VRDOLJAK
