"These contemporary collages are based around the idea of objects reflecting identities, depicting still-life snapshots from intimate and individual spaces - more often than not of bedside tables, but also from the inside of bags, purses and bathroom shelves.

The objects one possesses will often say a lot about the person behind them and of their current state of being, despite initially seeming to be somewhat mundane - the fashion in which a bedside table is displayed (or the lack of it) illustrates characteristics which are very much subject specific - ‘a portrait without the portrait’, as it were.

Whilst collage is at the heart of the series, multiple other materials such as gouache, acrylic and ink were used to heighten texture and colour, in order to achieve the desired outcome. Use of materials is very important to me - they can really reinforce the character that is trying to be implied." - Jessie Gardiner
