"I am a photographer from Vancouver, Canada. I got into photography from playing around in my high school’s dark room and having photo shoots with my friends. It has been an obsession ever since.

This series was shot all over central Japan in the winter of 2017 while I was travelling alone. I wanted to describe through my photos the different moods I encountered outside and within the cities I visited. In particular, I was captivated with the modes of transit I rode and the people I met along the way.

Science fiction movies, Fred Herzog and David Hockney’s paintings have been big inspirations for me. I’m always looking to shoot overlooked places and connect with more people through my photos. I’m currently working on playing with different forms of light and how light can change a scene. I want to expand my style to include more surreal aspects in everyday life." - HAYLEY LOHN
